TLC Workshops
Line

TLC Workshop descriptions for 2010 are not yet available. Below is a sampling of TLC 2009 Workshops.

You will choose two workshops to attend during the week. Most workshops are offered for two days at a time – Tuesday/Wednesday and Thursday/Friday. You can sign up on Tuesday morning for your first workshop choice and again on Thursday for your second workshop choice.

Developing Prayer Groups in Your School or Church
What happens when God's people pray? Can my prayers make a difference in the lives of those around me? Am I even allowed to start a prayer group in my school? Church? Come join us as we dig into God's Word and establish practical ways to begin prayer ministries both at school and church. Step up your prayer life to more than a "thank you" before your Fruit Loops in the morning, to a God glorifying ministry that could turn this world upside-down for Jesus Christ!

Developing Accountability Groups that Accomplish Spiritual Growth
God has created the Body of Christ with the intent that we contribute to each others growth. But getting past friendship to really edify each other's hearts is difficult. If you want to take your relationships to the next level, this is the workshop for you. Participants will be equipped to form and lead accountability groups in their home churches.

Putting Together a Bible Study
Many students today are interested in knowing what the Bible says about today's issues. This workshop will help you learn how to utilize that interest to get a Bible studying going with your friends and classmates.

Pursuing Purity “Together” (Guys only)
Guys who are honest, open, and real. Men who freely share both their joys and struggles. Young men who are courageous enough to confront a sinning brother, caring enough to ask hard questions, and loving enough to challenge each other with the Word of God and strengthen a brother for the battles he will face. This is really a description of God’s vision for the Church, the body of Christ. However it is also a description of the kind of scary, but good, uncomfortable but safe place to be where real growth and life change can take place among Christian young men. Workshop leader Mr. Ted Boykin has been both the leader and a participant of many groups of guys that have truly experienced the life changing power of God as they sought to pursue a life of purity together. Come ready to be part of that same kind of experience and learn how to take that experience home with you.

Pursuing Purity “Together” (Girls only)
"Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with GOD'S PEOPLE and MEMBERS OF GOD'S HOUSEHOLD." (Ephesians 2:19) This will be a time for girls to concentrate on purity. Purity regarding our thoughts, physical relationships, and other actions. We will work on steps to take home and apply to our day to day living. We will also work together on a plan to help friends and others in our youth groups to pursue purity. Are you the one that needs to step up and take a lead for the purity of your youth group?

Helping the Hurting, Homeless or Hopeless Where You Live
This workshop will not only help you understand the importance of helping the hurting, hopeless or homeless in the USA. It will provide ways individuals and groups can get involved in helping these people. While specifically focusing on rescue missions, there will be opportunities to adapt the concepts presented in this seminar to other ministries. You will be challenged to seek out opportunities to minister to the hurting, hopeless or homeless in your own communities.

Preparing NOW for Vocational Ministry Later
From the earliest missionary trip ever, (remember John Mark traveling with Paul and Barnabas?) students have been actively involved in missions. So, what if God wants you to be a missionary someday? What should you do now to prepare for the possibility that God may be calling you into His full-time service somewhere around the world? This workshop will discuss and identify practical “action steps” that you can implement into your life as a student that will help you immensely later on if God is calling you into His work. After all, the Lord Himself said, “Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest.” (See John 4:35)

Ministering in a Nursing Home in Your Town
Compassion . . . relationship building . . . enjoying others . . . sharing the good news about Jesus . . . and seeing how God works! Do you want to do these things and help others learn how? There’s no substitute for walking with God, and letting His Word fill our minds. But sometimes we need help knowing how to get what’s in our mind to come out our mouth. Come learn practical conversation skills. Work as a group on ways to turn a conversation toward spiritual things. Visit a local nursing home . . . and put these new skills into practice!

Starting a Street Ministry
Yesterday, some friends and I went into the streets after church. We passed out tracts and witnessed to quite a few teens. Some took the tracts politely, some were genuinely interested. Some just passed by and laughed at us. Others began to question and really wanted to know more. Overall, I was heartbroken by all the people who did not want anything to do with us. They would take the tract, immediately wad it up and throw it away or would curse us because of what we were doing. I questioned in my heart, "Don't they know that we are trying to offer them hope? That we want them to know a better way?" Could it be that God is calling you to start a street ministry? Even if you wanted to, what would it look like? I believe that God is calling groups of teens from different youth groups to reach out to this forgotten generation of kids who live most of their existence on the streets.

How to Confront Your Friends
So what do you do when a Christian friend of yours is involved in stuff that he shouldn’t be? Do you tell your youth pastor, his parents, your friends or just conclude that it’s none of your business? Is it even your responsibility to do anything? We will examine what God says about your responsibility to your friends who are struggling with or involved in sin, how to approach them and how to encourage your youth group to take responsibility for one another a regular way of life, not just a once in a while occurrence.

From GUBA (Grown Up Born Again) to Super Dupa GUBA
Is there anyone in your youth group living a boring, stagnant Christian life? This workshop will challenge and equip you to bring a changed atmosphere home to your youth group so that God can use you to transform your youth group from ordinary to extraordinary.

Learning How to Evaluate Opportunities as a Leader
As a Christian teen, you are a leader. Whether you have any other leadership titles, you are first of all Christ's ambassador (II Cor. 5:20).  In this workshop, you will learn how to evaluate the many opportunities that come your way so that in your leadership roles, you will know how to make God smile. We will be referencing Matthew 4:1–11.

Using Sports to Reach People
According to a recent Gallup poll, 90% of Americans read, watch, or participate in sports at least 1 time per week. Our country loves sports. We have a great and powerful means to use athletics as a way to get to know people by not only sharing the gospel but living the gospel out while competing or being a spectator. We are going to take a practical look at how we can use this great medium to get involved in people's lives.

How to Influence a Public School Campus for Christ – week 2 only
You see them in the halls…in the cafeteria…in the locker room. They sit next to you in class…across from you on the bus…in the student section at the game. Some of them are your friends…most of them are acquaintances…but all of them are your schoolmates. But the question is “how do you influence them for Christ?” In this workshop you will learn to look at the students in your school through the eyes of Christ and take advantage of the divine opportunities you have to make an impact for Him!  Regardless of what type of school you go to this workshop will equip all students (public, Christian, and home school) with “tested and tried” ideas that you can immediately take home with you and apply to your specific situation.
