Run to the Battle!
One of the most well-known battles in the Bible is the one between David and Goliath. You may not recall the details, but you remember the outcome . . . David won!
But it’s the stuff before the battle that makes the story memorable.
The odds were clearly against David. He was high school age, not a trained warrior. He had no armor; nothing more than a sling shot and a few stones for the fight. And his size wasn’t going to be much help against the nine-foot-tall Goliath.
It was like a high school football team playing against an NFL team. It appeared that David didn’t stand a chance of winning.
In fact, before David showed up on the scene, the armies of Israel had lined up to fight the Philistines 40 days in a row, two times each day. That’s 80 times they got ready to go into battle against the Philistines.
But each time the giant challenged them to fight, instead of running to the battle, the entire army ran back to their tents in fear!
The lack of support didn’t stop David. The Bible tells us as David approached the Philistine, Goliath started trash talking and threatened to feed his flesh to the vultures and the lions.
David’s response was simple. He told Goliath the battle wasn’t about sticks and stones vs. swords and spears. It was about the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel. David told Goliath that the LORD would give him and all of his army into Israel’s hands.
As soon as David finished his speech, the giant moved in for the attack. The Bible tells us “David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him” (I Samuel 17:48).
Without question or hesitation, David “ran to the battle.” And you know the rest of the story . . . David nailed Goliath in the forehead with a stone from his sling, cut off his head, and the armies of Israel chased the Philistines and destroyed them!
This year at TLC, you will be challenged to “run to the battle.”
The cause of Christ, as well as you and me, are under attack. It’s time to charge into battle in the name of the LORD Almighty and let the whole world know that the LORD is God!
It took a no-name high school student, one who wasn’t in charge of anything but a bunch of sheep, to step up, take the lead, and let God use him to fight the battle in the name of the LORD Almighty!
Are you up for the challenge? Are you ready to “Run to the Battle?”
