2008 Workshops

Here is a sampling of workshops to be offered at TLC. We will give more detailed information in the future, but we encourage you to begin planning now for these great opportunities to grow.

You will choose two workshops to attend during the week. Most workshops are offered for two days at a time – Tuesday/Wednesday and Thursday/Friday. You can sign up on Tuesday morning for your first workshop choice and again on Thursday for your second workshop choice.

SEARCHING FOR A HERO?
We all NEED a hero! Really? Should we? How do we get one of those? What's a hero for? Join us for a search for the heroes that can make a difference in our lives!

PURE POWER (FOR GUYS ONLY)
The struggle with sexual temptation--sometimes it's not so much a struggle as just plain failure. Does it make you mad? Discouraged? Make you want to quit? Anger, guilt, fear or shame can flood our hearts. If you or someone you know has these or similar struggles, this workshop offers practical steps to doing the hard work of pursuing a life of sexual purity. This is for guys only and to be specific, it's for young men who are determined to have victory in this battle and to equip you to be an encouragement to others.

AAACH! WHAT DO I SAY NOW?
Have you ever been in the situation where someone wanted to talk to you about a problem in their life and you didn't know what to say? God's Word tells us that we are supposed to build up and encourage one another. This FOUR-session workshop, will not only give you help in knowing what to say but it will also give you opportunities to practice HOW to say it. Who knows? God just might even have a plan to use you as a counselor not only with your friends now but maybe as a career in the future?

HOW CAN I BE SURE? KNOWING GOD'S WILL
If you are like most of us, you are probably a little curious about the future. What does God want you to do? How can you know? Can you be certain of choosing the right job or the right college and major? Of developing a relationship with the right person? Of what you should do in the little decisions? There's nothing wrong with these questions and the good news is that God has answers! That's right - clear answers can be found right in His Word!

FAITH AND FILMMAKING
This FOUR-day workshop will look at the unique craft of filmmaking and how it can be utilized by the believer to influence others for Christ. We will look at examples of groundbreaking movies and experience the creative filmmaking process. Video Cameras will be provided. No recommendation necessary. Bring your Bible.

WHAT'S SO IMPORTANT ABOUT STAYING PURE? (FOR GIRLS ONLY)
Staying pure in this sex saturated world is quite the challenge! Do you feel alone in the battle of purity? How do you fight temptation and win? What if you’ve already messed up, can God use you? How does sexual sin in other’s lives affect you? What do guys really think about girls? Most importantly, what does God’s Word have to say about purity? This girl’s only workshop will give us an opportunity to talk about God’s purpose for our purity and how staying pure gives us opportunity to show God’s amazing work in our life.

IS EVERYONE A MISSIONARY?
If indeed you are a child of the King, you are thus His royal ambassador. We will visit different cultures, in order to learn a lot about yourself, your own culture, and something about a culture through which you might consider serving your King! Be ready to laugh, learn, and to know more about your future in service to the King.

PREACH THE WORD (FOR GUYS ONLY)
This is a limited workshop for young men that sense God's leading in their life to preach the Word of God. If you are already being asked to preach, teach, or communicate messages or if you believe God is preparing you for a ministry like this, then this four-part session is for you. You must have a recommendation from your youth leader to sign up. It can be as simple as a hand-written note.

ANSWERING TOUGH QUESTIONS
How does anyone know God exists? How reliable is the Bible? How could God allow suffering and evil? Don’t all religions lead to God? Do science and the Bible conflict? Is there a heaven and hell? Is faith nonsense? Life is full of questions, but rarely do we get the answers that satisfy our souls. Using the Scriptures as our guide, we will wrestle through some of the most meaningful and difficult issues in life.

REACHING OUT TO THE ELDERLY AND DISABLED
Do you want to reach out to hurting people? Come learn how to start and develop a conversation and turn it toward Christ in a Nursing Home setting. Let God use you this week. It could make a difference in someone’s life for eternity.

DRAMA IN ACTION
Drama is a powerful communication tool that Christian leaders are striving to use in this country and around the world. But how can it be used to communicate spiritual truths effectively? In this four-part workshop, students will learn about the creation and development of original dramatic pieces and actively participate in the process of creating and performing in a dramatic piece to be presented at the Friday evening session. This workshop requires a full four-session commitment. Preference will be given to juniors, seniors, and graduates from high school.

OPERATION OUTREACH
Operation Outreach has been one of the most important efforts of TLC for decades. This is not only a time to prepare you to share your faith, but also to do it. We want to lead you in this awesome opportunity to spread the Good News of salvation. This two-day workshop is a significant time commitment which will be held from 1:30-4:30 p.m. on those afternoons. This year we will also be offering a brand new opportunity for night outreach. You will need to pre-register for this, so stay tuned.
