TLC 2008

Heroes have always been part of our culture.
From the time you began school, you heard about people who shaped the foundations of our country—George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, Betsy Ross, Patrick Henry, and Abraham Lincoln.
You heard about others who attempted what was thought at the time to be impossible, until they pulled it off—Christopher Columbus, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, the Wright brothers, Lewis and Clark, and Henry Ford.
If you grew up in Sunday school, it wasn’t long before you were learning about Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Ruth, Esther, David, Daniel, Peter, and Paul.
Although there aren’t as many as there used to be, you might have had sports heroes—Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Mia Hamm, LeBron James, Jennie Finch, or Tom Brady.
Since 9/11, we have become more aware of real-life heroes in today’s society. The men and women who risked or sacrificed their lives for others in New York City, Washington D.C., or on the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania were without question modern-day heroes.
And life just wouldn’t be the same without the superheroes—Spiderman, the Fantastic Four, Batman, and the oldest of them all, Superman.
When thinking about any of the above-mentioned kinds of heroes, you’ve probably concluded that you could never do anything remotely close to what they have done. That kind of thinking is okay when it comes to superheroes, but the other heroes were human beings just like you and me.
The 2008 TLC theme is Heroes! We want you to know that you can be a hero for God— today. You don’t have to wait until you get out of high school. You can have a great impact for God on the lives of people all around you, young or old!
This summer will mark our fortieth Teen Leadership Conference. That’s right; 40 years ago, a real-life hero by the name of Jim Huckaby was moved by God to begin TLC on the campus of Baptist Bible College. The interesting thing is that Jim Huckaby wasn’t even thinking about being a hero. He just wanted to do something to impact high school students for God in a great way.
You can be a hero—an ordinary individual who believes in an extraordinary God, who doesn’t care about getting credit or recognition, and who simply wants to see great things accomplished for our great God!
TLC Mission

Baptist Bible College’s Teen Leadership Conference exists to train student leaders of local church youth groups to influence their church and community for Christ.
The primary goal of TLC is to share God’s Word with age-appropriate methods to teen leaders, providing a platform for the Holy Spirit to produce heart changes and a ministry mindset. A secondary objective is to encourage and develop the adult leaders of these youth groups, in order that they will be sharpened in their ministry knowledge and skills.
