TLC exists to train student leaders to influence their church and community for Christ.
This past summer was my first experience with TLC. Despite hearing about the conference from friends at BBC, I really didn’t know what to expect.
I enjoyed counseling at TLC for several reasons. The first is that I was able to spend a lot of time getting to know the students with whom I was working.
One of the major emphases for counselors at TLC is to have meaningful conversations with the students. I had several opportunities to have significant conversations with each of my guys about different areas of their lives, which allowed me to see areas in which they needed encouragement and prayer. Another positive aspect of having time to spend with the students is that many of them felt comfortable opening up about significant issues in their lives. I was able to have several very personal conversations about changes that guys desired to make and for which they needed guidance. The relationships made at TLC are very important and can extend far beyond the one week on BBC’s campus. There are still several guys I counseled last year with whom I still keep in contact. It has been a tremendous blessing to see how God has continued to work in the lives of some of the students to bring about great changes for His glory.
Another great thing about TLC is that the leaders are committed to helping the students understand and obey God’s Word. The Scriptures are viewed highly by the entire staff and everyone is focused on helping the students to think biblically. This is an extremely important skill and one that I wish I had been taught at a much younger age. The students are challenged to use the Bible’s principles as a guideline for making decisions that honor God. God has used TLC to help many of the students develop a passion for his Word and ultimately to live a life pleasing to him.
