Skill Development
Campers will learn specific skills in the context of:
- Fast-paced drills that maximize ball touches
- Personalized instruction times for developing
technical skills
- Exercises and training designed to teach proficiency
in movement
Competition
Each day, campers will participate in a variety of modified and team competitions. These games will encourage you to take the skills you are learning and put them to use in real, on-court situations. In general, players from the same school will play together during team competitions.
Coaching Staff
Our staff consists of current and former members of the Lady Defender Volleyball team, as well as BBC and attending coaches.

Chapel
Chapel will serve as a point of focus and encouragement during each day as staff and campers join together to study the Bible and share. We are concerned about much more than your athletic skill—we want you to grow in your relationship with Christ.
Coaching School
Attending coaches MUST pre-register!
Our Coaching School will include both on and off court instruction, as well as discussion and demonstration by Coach Shumaker and other guest speakers. The fee for coaches is $30.00. One coach may attend free for each eight players from the same school. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide facilities for coaches’ families.

The 2003 NCCAA II National Coach of the Year, and 2005 & 2006 NEAC Coach of the Year, David Shumaker brings nineteen years of coaching experience to Defender Volleyball Camp—six of them at BBC, his alma mater. His women’s team has continued the winning tradition with fourteen consecutive NCCAA II East Region Championships and three NCCAA II National final-four finishes. Coach Shumaker has helped his team enter the ranks of NCAA III competition, winning two straight NEAC Conference Championships and a birth into the NCAA III National Tournament in their first year of eligibility. His aggressive, multi-tempo offensive style and “get after it” approach to defense will motivate you to learn throughout the week. His desire to see players grow spiritually will encourage you in your walk with Christ.
