New academic provost among June changes

Dr. Jim Lytle, a veteran educator and missionary, expands his role at Baptist Bible College & Seminary this month to become Vice President & Provost.

In his new position, Dr. Lytle assumes responsibility for all "life and learning" at the College, Graduate School, and Seminary. As Provost, he is the highest ranking academic officer at BBC&S. The new role was effective June 1.

Dr. Lytle returned to BBC&S as Vice President of College & Graduate School Academics in January 2007. He and his wife, Diane, served on the mission field in Durban, South Africa for 14 years prior to the move.

A 1977 BBC graduate, Dr. Lytle also earned degrees from BBS in 1981 and 1984. He served as a Bible Department faculty member, Dean of Men, and director of the Teen Leadership Conference before moving to South Africa.

The moves of three BBC&S vice presidents were also effective on June 1.

-- Dr. Howard Bixby, formerly Seminary Dean and Vice President for Seminary Academics, has retired.

-- Dr. Friedhelm Loescher, who served as Vice President for Student Development, will continue in a part-time role as Student Development Dean.

-- James Huckaby, longtime Vice President for Alumni/Summer Ministries, will continue in a part-time role as Athletic Director.

With the changes, Dr. Lytle's responsibilities include Information Technology, Institutional Research, the Murphy Memorial Library, Career Services, the Registrar's office, and other academic matters in the College, Graduate School, and Seminary.

The role also oversees the Office for Student Development. His focus will continue to be on equipping faculty for greater effectiveness and broadening the reach and delivery of academics at BBC&S through greater distance learning and online offerings.

Other changes include:

-- Seminary Dean responsibilities move to Dr. Mike Stallard, a professor of systematic theology and director of the PhD program.

-- Alumni Services moves to Institutional Advancement, with direct responsibility moving to Mark Steckiel, Director of Alumni & Church Relations.

-- Adult summer conferences moves to Institutional Advancement, with direct responsibility moving to Lisa Konzelman, Director of Annual Fund & Special Events.
