BBS students complete year-long internships
Fourteen Baptist Bible Seminary students have wrapped up a year of practical, hands-on experience, a unique component of their Master of Divinity degree program.
Participants logged over 45 ministry hours per week during the just-completed 2007-2008 academic year. While working directly with local churches and experienced pastors, the interns completed their course work with direct work in pastoral roles. Settings ranged from Seminole, FL to Waterloo, IA.
Joshua Jones, who graduated from the M.Div. program in May, served with Pastor David Peterson at Mountainside Bible Chapel in Schroon Lake, NY. He said the internship gave him assurance of his calling into full-time pastoral ministry. The practical learning and one-on-one training with a mature, knowledgeable pastor solidified his desire to serve Christ and the church as a pastor in life-long ministry.
BBS's internship field training is a one-year, paid program within the M.Div. degree track. It is completed during the final year of a student's program. The local church or other ministry-employer provides a salary and living expenses for the year.
Students are placed in settings attractive to them. They then apply what they've learned in academic settings and work it out in the lives of a church congregation.
Interns in 2007-2008 participated in a total of 640 teaching opportunities, 343 counseling sessions, and 185 preaching opportunities. The Gospel was presented at least 235 times, and the interns are aware of at least 85 professions of faith in Jesus Christ through their ministries.
