Fourth Golf-a-thon pushes event fundraising to nearly $600,000
Baptist Bible College & Seminary's fourth annual Golf-a-thon raised almost $100,000 for student scholarships, putting the four-year total of money raised through the marathon golf event at nearly $600,000.
The Golf-a-thon was held May 15 at Stone Hedge Golf Course in Tunkhannock, PA. Golfers and 41 business sponsors raised dollars ahead of the daylong event and then participated in golfer/caddy teams, playing a minimum of 100 holes in nine hours.
A special photo page and video of the event is online at www.bbc.edu/golfathon. Contributions through the program are still being accepted. They can be made online at the same website and clicking on "Give to the Scholarship Fund."
The dollars raised play an important role in keeping higher education accessible. Each year, BBC&S reduces the up-front cost for each student by over $3,000 through its scholarship fund.
Through business sponsors and individual gifts related to the golf event, $89,483 has been raised for scholarships so far, bringing the four-year total to $577,251. After this year's event, a special awards dinner was held at The Inn at Nichols Village. Among those recognized were:
Most Holes Played - 375, by Ron Paull of Keystone Retirement Resources and Roddy Hannah, Director of Career Services at Baptist Bible College & Seminary
Closest to the Pin - Josh Fiedler of Nuveen Investments
Longest Drive (front nine) - Josh Epstein of MetLife
Longest Drive (back nine) - Ron Paull of Keystone Retirement Resources
A new Closest to the Pin contest raised an additional $1,000 that will go onto a student's fall 2008 bill. Golfers paid $5 a swing at Hole 10 for the opportunity to win donated gift cards of $250, $150, and $100 from Dick's Sporting Goods.
