BBS prof contributes chapter to Ryrie tribute book

Dispensationalism and its relation to American foreign policy is the focus of a Baptist Bible Seminary professor's contribution to a new book on the work of Dr. Charles C. Ryrie.

The chapter by Dr. Michael Stallard is included in the collection, Dispensationalism Tomorrow & Beyond: A Theological Collection in Honor of Charles C. Ryrie, published by Tyndale Seminary Press.

The work was adapted from a paper by Stallard entitled "Is Dispensationalism Hurting American Policies in the Middle East?" It defends conservative support for the nation of Israel. "Dispensationalists believe in Israel's right to the land by embracing the biblical prophecies about Israel's land in a straight-forward way," Dr. Stallard writes.

The book is an appreciation of Dr. Ryrie and his foundational dispensational ideas. It also includes articles from John Whitcomb, Robert Thomas, Arnold Fruchtenbaum, Paul Benware and others. Dr. Ryrie published Dispensationalism Today in 1965. Many of the ideas contained in the work are foundational to traditional dispensational thought.

Dr. Stallard, who will become Seminary Dean on June 1, is Professor of Systematic Theology at BBS. Dispensationalism, a theological system emphasizing a literal interpretation of the Bible, is his area of expertise.
