BBC prof heads translation project

Ashraf BasiliousPart-time Baptist Bible College professor Ashraf Basilious is coordinating work on an Arabic translation of The Expositor’s Bible Commentary. It is a 12-volume commentary on the entire Bible, published by Zondervan Press.

Mr. Basilious is the general editor of the translation project. The project is the first undertaking of the Friends of Arab Christians Ministry.

Mr. Basilious founded the Friends of Arab Christians Ministry to provide resources and tools in Arabic for Arabic-speaking Christians. He plans on officially launching the ministry this summer.

“Our mission is to help and serve those who serve the Lord by providing good, biblical, conservative, and scholarly resources,” said Mr. Basilious. “We will be involved in the translation of commentaries and other resources from English into Arabic, and we will encourage native theologians to write by publishing their works.

“Initially, we are focusing on the New Testament portions, and nine books have already been assigned. Translators are working voluntarily. My primary responsibilities will be to edit their work and to raise support for the ministry.”

Mr. Basilious teaches classes on the books of Exodus, Judges and Romans. He plans on graduating from Baptist Bible Seminary with a Ph.D. this May.
