Dr. Joseph Stowell II remembered for his service

Longtime trustee Dr. Joseph Stowell II is being remembered for his love and vision for BBC&S. Dr. Stowell passed away June 23. He was 96.

“As a trustee of our school for over 65 years, Dr. Stowell often amazed us with his wisdom and wit,” said BBC&S president Dr. James Jeffery. “He was a man who knew and loved Christ and who faithfully taught God’s Word.

“He had the demeanor and the patient forbearance to allow others to express viewpoints, then he spoke clearly about what he felt a good decision would involve.”

Dr. Stowell was a stabilizing force as the chairman of the Board of Directors during the school’s early years. Dr. Stowell also served as active president in the nine-month period between presidents Dr. Earle Griffith and Dr. Paul Jackson.

Because of his love for God and his faithful service to BBC&S, the Joseph M. Stowell Seminary Building was named in his honor in 1990.
