Faculty learning, preparing ahead of fall semester
Faculty members took time together to prepare academically and spiritually before the start of the BBC&S fall semester.
Special meetings, workshops, fellowship, and prayer time were all part of faculty "Prep Week" that began August 15. It was a time to learn, grow and focus on students.
"I appreciate the faculty workshops as a time when colleagues advance their learning, sharpen their skills, and renew their vision for what God has called us to do," said Professor Dr. Tom Cragoe. "It encourages us to heartily pursue excellence in our various disciplines out of love for Christ and to model that excellence out of love for our students."
The extra time spent in preparation shows the dedication and love BBC&S faculty have for their students, said Vice President and Provost Dr. Jim Lytle.
"The BBC&S faculty is amazing," he said. "They consciously, strategically invest their lives in the students. It shows on days like these."
Learning, Tower Time
Workshops included sessions on how to best use Moodle 2, the new online learning management system used by students and faculty. Faculty members learned the ins and outs of the new upgraded system, ensuring students receive the best possible educational experience.
In a longstanding annual tradition, faculty members also met in the Jackson Hall Tower for a time of singing and prayer. The early morning "Tower Time" included songs led by Professor Dr. David Harris. It also included a time of devotion and reflection led by Dr. Lytle and small-group prayer time.
"It is exciting to see faculty members preparing for their classes and talking with each other in anticipation of the students arriving on campus," said Assistant Professor Jonathan Strayer. "We gathered in the Tower as a faculty team and prayed for the upcoming year and our students. The faculty here loves the students. That is evidenced by their level of dedication and preparation."
New undergraduate on-campus students will be welcomed beginning Friday, August 23. The fall semester on campus begins Monday, August 26. Online classes begin Monday, August 19.
