Impacting today's youth culture focus of free Seminary class

Gaining a deeper understanding of today's teenagers -- and learning powerful tools to evangelize and minister to them -- is the focus of a special free course for youth pastors this fall at Baptist Bible Seminary.

The four-day course runs October 9-12 from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. daily at the Clarks Summit, PA campus. The class is offered during the annual Celebration on the Summit week at BBC&S that features homecoming activities and more.

BBC&S"Impacting Today's Youth Culture" may be taken for seminary credit tuition-free by youth pastors. Other eligible students may also enroll in the class, with normal tuition applied.

The course will be led by three veteran youth ministry specialists:

- Mel Walker, BBC&S Vice President for Alumni & Church Relations and founder of the Vision for Youth ministry.

- Dwight Peterson, director of BBC's Teen Leadership Conference and a veteran coach and youth pastor.

- Dennis Wilhite, professor and dean of BBC's School of Global Ministries and founder of Pilgrimage Educational Resources.

This one-week course will help students acquire easily applicable and transferrable youth ministry principles, connect with other youth pastors, and better understand contemporary youth culture and the Millennial generation. Taught in a seminar style, discussions of current research will mix with practical steps and successful tactics.

"This is a generation that really believes they can accomplish anything," Walker said. "Students in this class will gain a greater sense of what the church can do to reach young people, to understand their postmodern mindset and their social consciousness."

The course also provides a unique opportunity for potential seminary students to experience a class and learn more about BBS. Time to visit the campus, meet professors, and learn about many financial aid opportunities are also available. Limited on-campus housing is available for $15 a night.
