Men's Conference kicks off season of summer events

A powerful time to be challenged by the Bible and each other drew more than 150 men to the BBC&S campus May 17-19, the first conference of the summer season.

"Fearless" was the theme for the 2012 Men's Conference. The annual retreat provides spiritual encouragement, strong speakers, and a unique time for revitalization.

"We grew our men's ministry out of Men's Conference," said Mike Brandon, president of Kelton, PA-based H2O Ministries. "We point to it as the culmination of our year."

Developing successful ways to biblically deal with fears was a key focus of the conference. Dr. Jim Lytle, Vice President and Provost at BBC&S served as the keynote speaker.

"Men's Conference is so much fun because the guys really eat up the sessions," Dr. Lytle said. "I get excited about the chance to share the Word and talk through how to transfer knowledge into life."

Those in attendance cited sound biblical teaching and applications for everyday life among the key draws for the event.

"I enjoy hearing different views of the Word from different people," said Harvey Scelso of Atco, NY. "I love the Lord, and this keeps me in touch with Him. I really look forward to it, to recharging my batteries."

A range of workshops tackling life issues was offered by dynamic workshop speakers, including:
-Dr. Chris Davis on stress
-Ted and Sherri Boykin on marriage
-Mike Brandon on evangelism
-Kevin Stiles on small groups
-Dr. Steve Silverstein on addictions
-Ken Shepard on athletics
-Dr. Bill Higley on leadership
-Dr. Don McCall on pastoral issues
-Tom Bevan on financial planning

Other conference activities included sports tournaments, bowling, open gym and weight room, a paper rocket competition, Minute-to-Win-It competition, and an evening song fest.

"It is spiritually rejuvenating," said Kyle Charlton of Oxford, PA. "The fellowship is very encouraging."
