BBS professor pens book on The Song of Songs
Helping readers better understand the message of The Song of Songs is the focus of a new book by a Baptist Bible Seminary professor.
"Contributions of Selected Rhetorical Devices to a Biblical Theology of The Song of Songs" by Dr. Mark McGinniss is an excellent new resource on the rhetorical strategies and theology of The Song of Songs.
The book has just been issued by Wipf and Stock Publishers, a company specializing in new works in theology, biblical studies, church history, philosophy and related disciplines.
The Song of Songs is an area of expertise for Dr. McGinniss, who focused his doctoral dissertation on The Song and teaches courses in Old Testament literature, language, and exegesis.
"I wanted to explore The Song of Songs, and try to understand the message of the book and how the message of the book is put together," Dr. McGinniss said. "I want readers to understand and recognize that the author uses certain literary devices to help his rhetorical argument to create a theological point or message."

Dr. McGinniss also writes a blog focusing on church ministry, Old Testament theology and The Song of Songs -- "Outside My Door."

Along with teaching and speaking, Dr. McGinniss is currently working on a contribution for B & H Publishing Group's "The HCSB Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible: With Strong's Lexicon" with Dr. Alan Ingalls, Associate Professor of Old Testament Languages and Literature at BBS, and also on the pastoral staff at New Life Baptist Church in Scranton, PA.
Prior to coming to BBS in 2006, Dr. McGinniss served for 27 years as an educator and pastor. He was a teacher and a principal at Maranatha Christian Academy before becoming a youth pastor and then a senior pastor at Maranatha Baptist Church in Hazlet, NJ.
