BBS hosts fifth-annual Chaplaincy Emphasis
Chaplain (Colonel) James May, who served the U.S. Army in numerous locations around the world for more than a quarter century, and Chaplain (Major) Kevin Browne, a longtime U.S. Air Force officer, were featured speakers for Baptist Bible Seminary's fifth-annual Chaplaincy Emphasis days September 17-18
Along with special speakers, the two-day event featured unique dorm devotions and a cookout for interested students sponsored by U.S. Navy Chaplaincy.
Before he retired last year, May was stationed in Germany. His most recent assignments included being Senior Chaplain at Arlington National Cemetery and Senior Chaplain for the Military District of Washington.
In October 9, May -- a 1978 graduate of BBC and a 1980 graduate of BBS -- will be presented with the Alumnus of the Year award during special ceremonies on campus.
Chaplain Browne is currently Senior Protestant Chaplain at Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming. Warren is home of the 90th Missile Wing, activated in 1963, which operates 150 Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles.
Vital responsibility
Military chaplains minister to soldiers and their families wherever troops are stationed in the U.S. and around the globe. They promote faith, morale, and hope to those that serve in the armed forces.
Chaplaincy Emphasis days raise awareness among College and Seminary students about the unique ministry of military chaplaincy.
Core curriculum in the BBS Military Chaplaincy program includes courses on pastoral skills, preaching, counseling, discipleship, theology, biblical exposition, and biblical languages. The program also features a one-year internship with hands-on ministry.
Requirements for chaplaincy include a theological master's degree. Most endorsers prefer the Master of Divinity. For more information on the BBS Military Chaplaincy program, click here.
Baptist Bible Seminary offers students a genuine blend of rigorous academic content and transformational hands-on applications. Five advanced degrees are available in several flexible formats including Chaplaincy. To learn more, call 800.451.2287 or email
