Growing Leaders Conference prepares high school students for future

Leadership development for high school students and youth leaders is the focus of a special event on the campus of Baptist Bible College next month.
"Leaders Take the First Step" is the theme of the 2008 Growing Leaders Conference on November 6-8.
Stepping up to become more than just another member of the group is a challenge. This special time helps students develop their strengths as they find opportunities to be leaders in their churches, schools, and social groups. Focusing on individual strengths helps students realize they are equipped by God to be effective in the lives of their friends and peers.
Workshops and other activities offer Christian youth guidance, instruction and encouragement as they prepare to take their first steps towards affecting the world around them for Christ. Students will attend various workshops taught by BBC faculty and staff. Main sessions feature dynamic youth speakers, including Mel Walker, President of Vision for Youth, and Bill Kallenberg, President of Student Leadership Development.

Servant leadership is a core component of education at BBC. Recently, students took the initiative in beautifying the campus.

Students attending the conference will have the opportunity to attend college chapel and classes. They will enjoy interaction with BBC students and faculty through special events, too, such as the senior class' entertaining annual Lip Sync social. Break-out groups will allow students to engage in discussion with other students from various schools, regions, and backgrounds.
Cost per student is $100. Groups of 10 or more will receive a $100 gas card.
The conference, which BBC has hosted since 1998, also presents an opportunity for BBC faculty, staff and students to become involved in shaping the lives and hearts of future leaders. Last year over 70 students attended.
Baptist Bible College & Seminary offers 38 academic programs, from a one-year Bible Certificate to PhDs. Programs are available through the Clarks Summit campus and several distance learning options. To learn more, go to www.bbc.edu or call 570.586.2400.
