BBS hosting fourth-annual Chaplaincy Day

Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Allen "Doug" Ferry, New York Joint Forces National Guard Chaplain, will speak at Baptist Bible College & Seminary's fourth-annual Chaplaincy Day on September 19.

He will speak in both Seminary chapel at 9 a.m. and College chapel at 10 a.m. Click here to listen to chapel messages online.

Chaplain Ferry supervises all chaplains, chaplain candidates, and chaplain assistants of the Air and Army National Guard. He has been deployed in both Bosnia/Herzegovina and Iraq, and also served as the Task Force Chaplain for Operation Rainbow Hope-WTC in 2001.

Military chaplains provide spiritual leadership to soldiers and their families, promoting courage, hope, and faith in life-and-death situations. Chaplains are highly influential in the lives of people who are making decisions that affect our country and the world.

Chaplaincy Day at BBS raises awareness of the chaplaincy as a ministry option. Interested students are given the opportunity to discuss chaplaincy in further detail.

Chaplaincy requires a theological Master's degree. Most endorsers prefer the Master of Divinity. Because of its high academic standards and emphasis on ministry experience, BBS's M. Div. is readily accepted by most Protestant, endorsing agencies.

Core curriculum in the M. Div. program includes courses on military chaplaincy, pastoral skills, preaching, counseling, discipleship, theology, biblical exposition, and biblical languages.

The BBS program also features a one-year internship, during which students are active in hands-on ministry. The intensely practical learning period can be used to meet the military's experience requirement, enabling graduates to achieve full-time military status more quickly.

Seven students are currently enrolled in the BBS chaplaincy program. The second graduating class will be in May.

Baptist Bible Seminary offers students a genuine blend of rigorous academic content and transformational hands-on applications. Five advanced degrees are available in several flexible formats. To learn more, call 800.451.2287 or email pgolden@bbc.edu.
