Sports camps train players physically, spiritually
The development of athletic skills and spiritual character is the combined focus of several upcoming sports camps at Baptist Bible College & Seminary.
Six camps are held each summer in basketball, soccer, and volleyball. Defender camps help budding athletes improve their skills while they live at the Clarks Summit, PA, campus for a week. Big Blue day-camps teach local children up to Grade 8 sport fundamentals. An estimated 1,200 campers will participate this year.
BBC's Athletic Department is set to host three more camps this year. Here are details:
Lady Defender Volleyball, Grades 9-12, July 13-18:
With an emphasis on both basic and advanced skills in volleyball, this week of training aims to improve individual players and teams. Coach David Shumaker (BBC Lady Defenders coach) brings 19 years of coaching experience to this camp as its director. Campers will learn specific skills in the context of fast-paced drills that maximize ball touches, personalized instruction times for developing technical skills, and exercises and training designed to teach proficiency in movement. The schedule also includes competition, a coaching school, and daily chapel. Click here for details or to register.
Defender Soccer, Grades 9-12, August 3-8:
Training sessions for both field players and goalkeepers are a main advantage of this camp for both male and female soccer players. Coaches Chris Davis (BBC Lady Defenders coach) and John Jackson (BBC Defenders coach) head up the intense, daily training sessions. Soccer camp also features both 8 vs. 8 and 11 vs. 11 competitions, a coaching school, and daily chapel led by the camp staff and counselors. Click here for details or to register.
Big Blue Soccer, Grades K5-8, August 11-15:
The development of teamwork, sportsmanship, and self-control is a major goal of this camp. Open to children living in the Clarks Summit community, Big Blue Soccer uses athletics to help parents raise healthy, well-rounded children. Two daily sessions (grades K5-3 in the morning and grades 4-8 in the afternoon) are run. Lunch and swimming are also available. Coach John Jackson (coach of the BBC Defenders soccer team) is directing the camp. For details or to register, Click here.
