BBC Defenders looking forward to spring

BBC Defenders looking forward to spring

Baptist Bible College is fielding three athletic teams this spring. Baseball and softball will take to their respective diamonds while a revived men's tennis team will make its first appearance in nearly three decades.

All three BBC teams are looking forward to strong seasons. Here's a preview:

Defender baseball. The men's team has much to be optimistic about as they enter their fourth year of competition. Building upon a strong base of returning players and an influx of talented freshman and transfer student/athletes, Baptist Bible has reason to expect much improvement on the field. The team returns all four of its top hitters from 2007. Matt Owlett (Annville, PA), Seth McDonald (Chesapeake, VA), Ken Barrows (Whitney Point, NY) and Zach Dawson (Batavia, NY) have the ability to be the run producers at the top of the lineup in 2008. Lady Defender softball. The team welcomes 10 new players and fields a roster with 10 freshmen and three sophomores. Liz Tomasetti (Elizabethtown, PA), co-captain and the only senior on the team, is a career .367 hitter and carries a small 2.75 earned run average to the mound and 365 career strikeouts. Heather Stamper (Hagerstown, MD) will join Tomasetti at the captain's rank, with a career .352 batting average. Ashley TenKate (Hawthorne, NJ) is a third year player and will be counted on in the co-captain and designated hitter roles and in pinch hitting situations. Men's tennis. The squad makes its return to BBC and will round out the 2008 spring sports line-up. The last time the College sponsored a men's team was in the last 1970s. The team fields a six-player roster and is set to play a 10-game schedule. Punctuating their season will be the NEAC championships on April 25-26.
