British comedy takes center stage

Lettice and Lovage, a lighthearted story about overcoming mediocrity, will be presented in March by the Drama and Communications Department at Baptist Bible College.

The charming and hilarious British comedy by Peter Shaffer won two 1990 Tony awards. Performances will be at 8 p.m. on March 6, 7, and 8 in the Phelps Student Center.

The play features Lettice Douffet, portrayed by Kate Buis, as an expert on medieval cuisine and weaponry. She is a tour guide of Fustian House, the most boring stately home in Britain -- until she begins to embellish her tours, which become more interesting as they stray further from the facts.

Charlotte Schoen, played by Courtney Young, is sent by the Preservation Trust to investigate, is not amused and fires her. But Charlotte's passion for history, and distaste for mediocrity, draws her to Lettice's romantic worldview and the two women forge an unlikely friendship.

Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $6 for alumni, students, and seniors 55 and over. For details, call 570.585.1413 or email boxoffice@bbc.edu.
