Basketball teams start seasons

Baptist Bible College’s 2007-2008 winter athletics season is underway, with men’s and women’s basketball teams participating in NCAA Division III action.

The season runs from the Laurel Line Tournament at Misericordia University (men) and the Marywood University Tip-Off (women) to conference and championship action that could run into March.

Scores, news, prospects and rosters are posted and updated at the BBC Defenders website all season long. Go to www.bbcdefenders.com for the latest details.

This season will be a time of beginning and building for BBC’s Lady Defenders. It is Coach Matt Pollock’s first year at the helm.

“They love the game, they thoroughly enjoy it,” Coach Pollock said. “They are students of the game.”

Team captains Holly Walton (Galloway, NJ) and Liz Bole (Jenison, MI) will lead the cast of returning players. Walton led the team last year with 8.1 rebounds per game and 88 assists on the season.

Coach Mike Show is in his 14th season as the head coach of the men’s team. The men’s team won the North Eastern Athletic Conference North Division title last year.

Returning players Josh Workman (Akron, OH) and Justin Cook (Brownsburg, IN) will lead BBC this year as captains. Workman averaged 15.8 points per game in 2007, and Justin Cook remains the outside threat with a team-leading 54 three point field goals last year.

This is BBC basketball’s last season as a member of the NEAC. All BBC teams will compete in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference beginning in 2008-2009. They will join local rivals Keystone College and Marywood University in moving to the PAC.
