BBS professor authors new textbook
A new book designed to help students read Greek texts has been written by Dr. Rodney Decker, a professor at Baptist Bible Seminary
Dr. Decker assembled the Koine Greek Reader from selections from the Greek New Testament, Septuagint, early Christian authors, and traditional Christian creeds. It is targeted toward intermediate Greek readers and was published this month.
“It is designed to help students who are preparing for ministry,” Dr. Decker said. “I want them to be able to apply the translation tools that they’ve already learned to new texts.”
Dr. Decker has contributed to several other works and wrote Temporal Deixis of the Greek Verb in the Gospel of Mark in Light of Verbal Aspect, a book in a series edited by D. A. Carson, a leading Christian scholar and author.
The Gospel of Mark is Dr. Decker’s area of specialization. Mark was the first of the four Gospels to be written.
A professor at BBS since 1996, Dr. Decker taught for six years at Calvary Bible College and Seminary in Kansas City and spent a dozen years in pastoral ministry.
He is currently working on another book, Mark: A Handbook of the Greek Text. He is scheduled to finish the text in 2010. It will be published as a volume in the Baylor Handbook on the Greek New Testament.
