Silent Auction for Scholarship

Silent Auction for Scholarship

Dress AuctionGirls from Barndollar and Commons Halls transformed the Phelps Student Center into a fashion runway on Saturday, March 10. Looking to raise money for a new women’s scholarship, these girls ran the first annual Wedding Gown and Formal Dress Sale.

Baptist Bible College staff member Tammy Sprowls originated the idea of a dress sale for a scholarship. Dean of Women Carol King supported the cause and took over the organization. Barndollar Resident Director Lynelle Buchanan was also instrumental in recruiting girls to carry much of the responsibility.

This scholarship will be named the Joyce MacNamee Women of Excellence Scholarship in honor of former BBC elementary education professor. MacNamee served for many years here at BBC before becoming a single missionary. She recently has retired.

Only women will be eligible to receive this scholarship. Carol King is responsible for the selection process, which is based solely on character. The scholarship money will come from the sale of the donated dresses at Saturday’s silent auction as well as the sale of the remaining dresses on eBay. From the auction alone, approximately $1,500 was raised. All monies will go directly to the scholarship.

Many girls left this year’s auction happy to save a few dollars on formalwear while supporting a good cause. Lynelle Buchanan hopes these girls will spread the word of this auction to establish this as an annual event.
