Festival to showcase student, alumni films

The BBC Film Fest, a showcase of work directed and produced by students and alumni, is set for April 26 in the Phelps Student Center.

The festival provides an opportunity for aspiring filmmakers to create and submit short films for screening.

The community is invited to attend the 8 p.m. Saturday evening event. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $2 at the door.

BBC&SThe deadline for students and alumni to submit films is April 21. Submissions should be not longer than 10 minutes. All genres are accepted and range from action and comedy to drama and documentaries.

Those attending will cast votes for their favorites. Cash prizes will be awarded for a variety of categories that include Best Film, First-time Director, and Best Dorm Film.

The BBC Film Fest is hosted by EMULSION: A BBC Film Club, led by Jack Coleman, BBC&S' Director of Video Communications.

"This gives students a creative outlet in the area of visual arts especially film and video production," he said. "We live in a visual culture. As students go into careers, they need to know how to engage with and contribute to that visual culture."

The Communications program at BBC offers a Media emphasis that equips students to work in creative media design and direction in a variety of areas that range from church and parachurch organizations to television production and education.
