President's Golf Classic set for May 19

A tradition of raising money for BBC&S student scholarships through play at a championship-caliber golf course will continue this May .

BBC&SThe President's Golf Classic is Monday, May 19 at Glen Oak Country Club in Waverly, PA, just minutes from campus. Registration and other details are online at

The event, held annually in Northeastern Pennsylvania since 2005, has raised significant funds for student scholarships, with more than $60,000 contributed last year. Golfers and local business sponsors raise funds, with the event providing an opportunity for friends of BBC&S to be involved in the work of equipping students for global Christian leadership.

"We greatly appreciate the generosity of these sponsors and golfers," said BBC&S President Jim Jeffery. "They are enabling us to provide greater scholarships for students and making a tremendous investment in the future."

Special Sponsorships
Businesses form a critical foundation of support for the event.

"Sponsors see, firsthand, the direct impact the President's Golf Classic has on the lives of students," said Jim Burke, Senior Vice President and Chief Lending Officer, Wayne Bank. "By supporting this event, sponsors make possible what otherwise may be unattainable for some students. There are many students at the event. After speaking with them and hearing how grateful they are for the support, sponsors walk away knowing they have made a deep impact on the lives of many."

Mr. Burke, who chairs the event planning committee, first became involved as a participant and sponsor in 2006.

Glen Oak Country Club opened in 1953. It was designed by James Harrison under the training of Donald Ross, a highly regarded golf course architect. It features five tees at each hole.

The event begins at 9:30 a.m. with registration and golfer gifts. Lunch is served at 11 a.m. and the tournament begins with a shotgun start at noon. Dinner, along with awards and prize drawings, is at 5 p.m.
