Prayer focuses students, faculty, staff
A special day of prayer brought BBC&S students, faculty, and staff together for a time of focused attention and fellowship.
The event, held twice each year, enabled participants to pray together about and discuss needs on campus, at home, and in the larger Scranton area community. For students, the event provided a day off from regular classes and an opportunity to reflect and respond through prayer and encouragement.
The day also took place before the three-day Global Ministry Conference , which this year keys on urban ministries.
"I appreciated being able to pray with some of the faculty," said Dean Dickens, a sophomore Pastoral Ministries major from Miami, FL. "I thought that was very helpful because they offer a lot of wisdom."
Partnering in Prayer
Throughout the day, special times were set aside for small and large groups.
Students then stayed in their residence halls for breakfast. The time was followed by small group prayer with participating faculty and staff members. A main session was held in the Recreation Center at 10 a.m., providing for corporate worship and more.
"Our group in chapel was very real and genuine," said Jacob Loper, a junior Specialized Ministries major from Warsaw, OH. "It was fun and relaxing at the same time."
After lunch, break out groups in the Murphy Memorial Library prayed for friends in the community in need of a relationship with Jesus Christ, for the incoming freshman class of 2014, and for greater spiritual revival in the hearts of people on campus.
"Today gave me time to reflect on my own personal life (in prayer) and ask God to intervene in my life," said April Dakoske, a senior Communications major from Grand Rapids, MI.
