Winter Concert continues Christmas tradition

Winter Concert continues Christmas tradition

The Winter Concert, a BBC&S Christmas season tradition, is set for three performances on Friday evening, December 13 and Saturday afternoon and evening, December 14.

The concerts feature student musical groups, including the Concert Chorale and Chamber Singers, as well as solo and other performances by music students and faculty. A jazz ensemble will perform and the audience will sing carols.

"Part of our template for success is we combine the Concert Chorale and Chamber Singers into a mass chorus," said Dr. Larry Kauffman, Chair of the BBC Department of Music. "People seem to like that aspect. We then feature a 60-plus voice choir."

BBC&SThe annual concerts often sell-out. This year's events include performances of "Gloria," Faure's "Sicilienne," and "Sanctus" by J.S. Bach. Familiar carols include "The Holly and the Ivy," "The Shepherd's Carol," and "We Three Kings."

Tickets are $10 each, which includes the dessert reception one hour before each performance. Special rates are available for students, alumni, faculty, and staff. Tickets are available online at www.bbc.edu/winterconcert or by calling the Music Department at 570.585.9295.

Special Venue, Special Groups
The Murphy Memorial Library, the venue for the concert, offers unique architecture and acoustics for the musical experience. Performance times are Friday at 8 p.m., and Saturday at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. A special dessert reception held in the Rotunda of Jackson Hall for ticket holders begins an hour before each performance.

The Concert Chorale is a 45-voice choir directed by Dr. Larry Kaufman. Dr. David Harris directs the BBC Chamber Singers, a 16-voice ensemble.
