Four honored with Alumni Awards

Each fall, special BBC&S alumni are recognized for unique contributions through their life and ministry.

This year, four individuals were honored during a noon luncheon on campus during Celebration on the Summit, Friday, October 11.

Previous recipients are listed at www.bbc.edu/alumni at the Awards link.

Those honored this year include:

Alumnus of the Year
Dr. Cheryl Fawcett (73)
International Youth Ministry Educator, ABWE
El Cajon, CA

Cheryl travels extensively in her role as a Christian education specialist training ABWE missionaries and national church leaders in effective youth and children's ministries. She is a talented and gifted communicator who served in teaching and training capacities in local churches and then at BBC, Cedarville University, and Christian Heritage College.

She is also a published author and is active in her church's youth ministry. She also personally leads several missions trips each year, taking groups of high school or college age students to countries around the world. She is a highly respected educator and has served on the boards of several professional organizations.

BBC&SOutstanding Service Award
John Frey (73)
Retired Pastor
Sharpsville, PA

John grew up in Lancaster, PA, and married his wife Florence (Floss) in 1957. After losing their oldest child Marie at 5 to aplastic anemia, the Lord began speaking to John about full time ministry. He enrolled at BBC in 1969 at 31. The second semester of his sophomore year he took the pastorate at Terrytown Baptist Church.

In 1975 he moved to Sharon Baptist Church and pastored there for 28 years. The Freys retired from Sharon Baptist in 2003 and are presently doing interim ministry. John and Floss have three children, Andrew (Judi Gage), Matthew (Jolynn Hodil) and Grace (Ray Brandon). The children and their spouses are all BBC alumni.

Outstanding Service Award
Kristi Walker (00)
Missionary and Youth Worker, ABWE
Teltow, Germany

Kristi has served on the staff of CrossWay International Baptist Church in Berlin, Germany, since 2004. Her main areas of responsibility include ministering to pre-teens and teenagers, although she is actively involved in outreach, women's ministries, and children's ministries as well.

She is also responsible for hosting and leading numerous short-term missions teams each year -- which have included multiple student groups from BBC. The Lord has used Kristi to lead multiple teenagers and their families to faith in Christ through the various ministries of CrossWay. Her ministry in the strategic city of Berlin has provided her with the opportunity to impact people from several countries all around the world.

Outstanding Service Award
Dr. Dennis Wilhite (74)
Professor, BBC
Glenburn Township, PA

Dennis served two decades in associate pastor and interim pastor roles, mostly in youth ministry, before returning to BBC in 1991. At BBC, he is a Professor and Chair of the School of Global Ministries, where he disciples people for the work of the ministry through teaching and developing curriculum and programs.

He founded Pilgrimage Educational Resources and has used that venue for 35 years to help churches and organizations develop aggressive, effective approaches to leadership development. Among his favorite things to do remains heading into wilderness with a group of people hungry to chase after broadened understanding of themselves, others, God, and ministry leadership.

Baptist Bible College & Seminary offers outstanding Christian higher education through on-campus, online, and other distance learning options. Students go beyond the ordinary, learning to think biblically, grow spiritually, and serve faithfully as they gain critical leadership and life skills.
