Traci Thompson: A Ministry of Music and Theatre
Passionate about acting and singing, Traci Thompson has long dreamed of pursuing ministry through communications and theatre. Growing up in Byesville, OH, Traci was involved with ministry in her local church. Whether through the BBC Chamber Singers or participating in a college drama production, Traci makes an impact on student life.
Traci is co-directing the production of BBC's fall play, Shakespeare's "The Tempest." It is the first time BBC has had co directors for a production.
Traci began her undergraduate career at Kent State University in Ohio, where she was involved with campus ministries and Camp Patmos during the summer.
At Camp Patmos, God took a hold of my heart. I just trusted God and listened to the calling of full time ministry and was brave enough to listen. That is when I decided I wanted to come to Baptist Bible College.
I am majoring in Communications with an emphasis in theatre. It has been amazing to see how God has used all the experiences - from backstage manager to acting on the stage - to glorify Him. I felt joy in the little things, like working behind the scenes. I would have never known how to serve that way if I had never done it. It helped me build a resume and humbled me to serve others.
Pursuing "The Tempest" as my senior project has been amazing. The production of this Shakespeare play started from many mini-conversations and came together as the months progressed. (BBC student) Hannah Sayre and I have taken direction and have had active roles in part of this production, including casting and directing. Professor Dr. Brian Maxwell has let us take part in so much and trusts us with the production.
The Chamber Singers is a family singing in the hallways of Jackson Hall. Professor Dr. David Harris, who leads the Chamber Singers, disciples us. I have grown a lot as a believer because he edifies and challenges me to be more godly. It is so much more than learning to sing. The group has been going through a book, "The Explicit Gospel." It has challenged me in many ways. Within Chamber Singers we have performed at Bible conferences, presidential dinners, Christmas concerts, a spring tour, and in local churches.
There are countless ministries to be involved in at BBC. Last spring, I started singing on the worship praise band. I have also been heavily involved in teaching Sunday school at North Valley Baptist Church a few miles from campus. There, I help with the Sunday school children's worship and scripture memory. I am also working to get a community theatre started with the church.
I love the church. I want to create a Christian community theatre through a church. I want to live my life as a testimony with my words with a church to point people to. I want the church body to be involved with the community theatre.
God has taught me so much about how sufficient He is. I want to be so in love with God that I talk about Him all the time. I cannot believe all that God has done in my life the past two years and I praise Him for it.
