Students fill break with service at home, on campus

BBC students are taking advantage of the summer break to learn, lead, and serve in local churches and other organizations around the country.

Each summer, students gain practical, hands-on learning and leadership training through internships, camp ministries, and local churches.

Additionally, over two dozen students are traveling to a range of countries for cross-cultural ministry experience. Read more about summer missions here.

RiSELeading with Music
RiSE, a special worship team of BBC students, is traveling this summer touring in nine states, leading worship in churches, schools, camps and conferences. The team aims to create a powerful worship atmosphere to help people respond to the presence of God.

Directed by Geoff Ellsworth through the BBC Admissions Department, the unique 10-member group is comprised of student singers and musicians. The team performs on campus and around the Northeast and Midwest throughout the year.

The team's 2012 event schedule includes stops in Pennsylvania, New York, New Hampshire, Maine, New Jersey and other states. They return to Clarks Summit, PA in July for BBC's Teen Leadership Conference.

Changing Lives at Camp
Camping ministry reaches the lives of children and teenagers each summer around the world. BBC students play an important role as counselors and support staff at ministries such as Camp BaYouCa in New York, Lake Ann Camp in Michigan, and Skyview Ranch in Ohio.

Mark Piroch, a 2012 graduate and Counseling major, is working at Rock Mountain Bible Camp in South Gibson, PA. As the maintenance team leader, Mark is guiding volunteers who help with basic grounds work and maintenance duties.

"I am really excited about this opportunity because I believe there is no better way to get to know someone than by working with them,"Mark said. "This ministry gives me the chance to talk with the teen volunteers about what I observe while working with them."

Students Nicole Kinne and Rachel Werhle are serving as counselors at two different camps this summer. Nicole, a senior in Office Administration major, will spend the summer at Camp BaYouCa in Smithville Flats, NY. Rachel, a junior Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education major will be counseling at Skyview Ranch in Millersburg, OH. Many other students are serving in other locations.

BBC's Camping Ministries major equips students with the preparation and skills necessary for effective camp ministry leadership. The program includes practical, hands-on learning experiences, building on the biblical and theological foundation of a BBC education. With additional assistance through Pilgrimage Educational Resources, camping ministries students complete an internship with a camp organization to fulfill program requirements.
