President's Golf Classic raises funds, builds connections
A tradition of raising money for BBC&S scholarships through play at a championship-caliber golf course continued in May, with nearly $70,000 raised for students .
The President's Golf Classic, held annually in Northeastern Pennsylvania since 2005, has raised more than $800,000 for scholarships since 2005.

"I am so grateful for our sponsors, golfers, and our BBC&S staff for helping to make the 2012 President's Golf Classic a great success," said BBC&S President Jim Jeffery. "With their help, we are providing scholarship for students. They are a great investment because of their potential to become global Christian leaders."
The 2013 President's Golf Classic will be May 20, 2013.
The President's Golf Classic was held at Glen Oak Country Club in Waverly, PA, minutes from the BBC&S campus. Opened in 1953, the course was designed by James Harrison under the training of Donald Ross, a highly regarded golf course architect. It features five tees at each hole.
Golfer foursome winners included:
Men's Championship Team: 57 (Frank Lisk, Tom Gauntlett, Paul Mooney, and John Koczwawa)
Men's First Flight: 67 (Jim Burke, Bob Conway, Jack Jones, and Sean MacPherson)
Women's Championship Flight: 72 (Dawn Jacobs, Amber Jacobs, Dena Cambra, and Elaine Brown)
On Course Contest Awards included:
Men's Closest to the Pin: Hole 9: Tom Gauntlett (4")
Women's Closest to the Pin: Hole 17: Jennifer Johnson (16' 10")
Men's Longest Drive: Hole 18: Bryan Carey
Women's Longest Drive: Hole 5: Doreen Howard
Putting Contest Winner: Reed Mullin
Golfers and sponsors appreciated the opportunity to both enjoy the day and assist students in paying for education at BBC&S.
"We believe in what BBC&S is doing," said Barry Kilmer. Vice President of Lindsey Lawn and Garden in Ithaca, NY, and a Diamond Level sponsor. "We want to support what they are doing, training students for leadership."
Jim Burke, Regional Vice President of Luzerne Bank and Lead Sponsor for the day, was pleased with the turnout and the event.
"We continue to be a part of this because we want to support the mission of BBC&S," Burke said. "Supporting scholarships helps students, the school, and overall the community. This has become one of the premier golf tournaments in Northeast Pennsylvania. We are thrilled to be a part of it while playing a role in the success of BBC&S."
