Awards Chapel celebrates students, donors

Students and donors were celebrated at a special Awards Chapel at BBC in April.

Scholarship funds totaling $101,725 were presented to 127 students for their hard work, highlighting their performance over the past academic year. Donors were present to meet and connect with the recipients of their gifts in the Phelps Student Center's Huckaby Gymnasium.

"This was totally unexpected, and I am really blessed," said Rebecca Somers, a senior Counseling major and recipient of the Margaret and Gordon Houser Scholarship. "It is really humbling. This is such a huge sacrifice for donors, to give money to young people that they don't even know."

BBC&SMaking a Difference
George Houser, sponsor of the Margaret and Gordon Houser Scholarship, was among those attending the event. He was able to talk with Rebecca and other recipients after chapel.

"It's a good feeling," Houser said. "We like being able to donate to students. God has been good to us and we have been able to add to it every year."

Among those setting aside money was the Class of 2012, which donated back the roughly $1,700 in its account for four student scholarships.

Among annual gifts are donations and proceeds from the LYFE Women's Conference, held each summer on the campus of BBC&S. The conference raises funds to assist female students with a commitment to full-time ministry.
