Set in New York City, "A Shayna Maidel"(translated from Yiddish - "a pretty girl") tells the story of Rose and Lusia. The sisters, born in Poland but separated by World War II and the Holocaust, are reunited after 20 years.
The sisters have led completely different lives, with Rose in the United States with their father and Lucia in a concentration camp in Europe. The sisters begin to grow closer together as they reveal the pain, struggles, and heartbreak of their pasts.
Inside the production
Music for the production was composed by BBC alumnus Seth Mitchell, a 2011 graduate. His contribution includes pre-show, intermission, and post show music, themes for the two lead characters and a "traditional Yiddish dance." Jeremy Kemmerer, a 2008 graduate, played the piano for the recording of the music.
Actors were given assistance with the pronunciation of the Yiddish words and phrases used throughout the production by Yiddish speaking residents of Elan Gardens, a senior living residence in Clarks Summit, PA.
The six member cast includes:
Lennae Warren as "Rose Weiss"
Chad Finke as "Mordechai Weiss"
Collis Bryant as "Duvid Pechenik"
Hannah Sayre as "Lusia Weiss Pechenik"
Rachel Frazier as "Hanna"
Traci Thompson as "Mama"
