Conference challenges, trains student leaders

"Need to Lead" was the focus of a unique conference for high school students November 10-12 at BBC, drawing more than 70 students and youth leaders from Pennsylvania and surrounding states.

BBC&SThe Growing Leaders Conference, held annually, prepares and encourages student leaders to influence fellow students and their schools for Jesus Christ. High School students along with youth pastors are challenged and motivated through dynamic speakers and practical workshops.

Students also experience campus life and college classes as part of the conference.

"The energy at this year's conference was great," said Jonathan Strayer, BBC's Director of Student Activities and director of the conference. "It was such a blessing to watch these young people and even the advisers engage their minds and challenge themselves to become growing leaders for Christ."

Inside the Conference
Keynote speaker Tim Morris focused on identifying and developing leadership abilities. Tim, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, now uses his skills to develop leaders into influencers for Jesus Christ.

Sessions and workshops focused students on recognizing the need for leadership and learning how to lead when necessary. Practical leadership workshops and dynamic application sessions are part of the special conference each year.

"BBC's Growing Leaders Conference impacted my life as a leader in school, in church, and in my community," said Jeffrey Butler, President of BBC's Class of 2013 and an attendee of the conference in 2008. "The people here do not just teach strategies and tell you what is right. They live it."

Visiting students at the Growing Leaders Conference also got a taste of college life and campus activities at BBC. They stayed in residence halls and interacted with college students who are leading on campus.

As part of the conference, students also attended college classes, prayed with BBC's Student Leadership Council, and experienced a campus-wide social, BBC's annual Lip Sync.
