Summer Golf Tournament offers fellowship, fun

Golfers improved their game and deepened friendships during BBC's annual Golf Tournament, a special June weekend featuring play over two courses in two days.

The event drew 65 players from several states to Sand Springs in Drums, PA on June 16, and Scranton Municipal Golf Course near Lake Ariel, PA on June 17.

"It is a great time of fellowship for these guys; it is also an evangelistic opportunity," said Gary Compton, who has organized the event for the past 18 years. "It is a great way to promote BBC&S."

Players raised $1,000 for the BBC Defenders golf team through donations and the sale of mulligans, or "do overs" for bad shots.

Golf TournamentThe winning foursome shot 12 under par. Members of the top scoring team were Ron Paull of Nicholson, PA, Josh Epstein of Clarks Summit, PA; David Epstein of New York City; and Joel Nietz of Chinchilla, PA.

Prizes were also awarded for closest to pin -- David Epstein and Jean-Marc Gutterson of Bordentown, NJ, and longest drive -- Josh Epstein and Harry Hicks of Collegeville, PA.

Two players -- Harry Hicks and Dick Blades of Georgetown, DE -- have played in every annual golf tournament since the first one nearly 30 years ago.
