BBC names new coaches for soccer, volleyball

Two new head coaches have been named for BBC Defender teams, with each bringing deep experience at Baptist Bible College and in coaching athletes.

Sean MacPherson has been named Head Men's Soccer Coach and Dr. Elaine Brown will serve as the new Head Women's Volleyball Coach. Both begin their roles immediately.

Sean MacPherson
Men's Soccer
Coach MacPherson is currently Director of Enrollment at BBC and will continue in that role as he takes leadership of the men's soccer team, replacing Coach John Jackson.

"I am looking forward to instilling an atmosphere of hard work, dedication, and Christian character that will allow the team to earn the respect of their opponents," Coach MacPherson said. "I take very seriously the role of helping each player appreciate the unique relationship between being an athlete striving to win and being an ambassador of Jesus Christ."

Coach MacPherson bring time as a player and coach to his position. He was the starting goalkeeper in 1992, 1993, 1995, and 1996 under Coach Roger Jacobs. He was named to the All-Conference team three of his four years, and played on NCCAA National Championship teams in 1992 and 1995.

In assuming his first intercollegiate head coaching role, Coach MacPherson brings 11 years of coaching experience on the high school level .

"I anticipate some growing pains for both myself and for the team because it is my first year at the college level and the players' first year with me," he said. "That being said, my desire is that each individual will improve as a player and we can improve as a team. I expect to foster an atmosphere where each team member feels valued and vital to the overall success of the team and takes very seriously his role in the process."

Elaine BrownWomen's Volleyball
Dr. Elaine Brown, a professor in Health & Physical Education, served as the women's volleyball coach at Cedarville University from 1982-1994. She replaces Coach Dave Shumaker.

"I am glad to be back in the world of competition at the collegiate level with the sport I love," Coach Brown said. "I look forward to preparing the team technically, tactically, socially, and spiritually, as well as meshing many different personalities into a cohesive unit."

During her time at Cedarville, Coach Brown was named Western Buckeye Collegiate Conference Volleyball Coach of the Year twice, as well as the NAIA District 22 Volleyball Coach of the Year, and Mid-Ohio Conference Volleyball Coach of the Year. Coach Brown also turned in 10 winning seasons, won 30 or more games three times, and 20 or more games six times.

She has also coached volleyball at the high school level.

"I like to run programs that are technically and tactically sound in all aspects," she said. "I will challenge each player to achieve a high level of strength and conditioning and foster team-building components."
