Students share stories of summer missions
Students shared glimpses of their experiences in hands-on global Christian leadership during a special college chapel highlighting summer missions.
Each year, students and teams from BBC&S serve around the world. This year, more than two dozen students participated in domestic and foreign missions over the summer, to destinations ranging from Chicago and Canada to Germany and China.

Kasey McGinness, a junior Secondary Education English major, spent five weeks in Guangdong, China. Andrew Filler, also a junior Secondary Education English major, worked alongside Kasey teaching English as a Second Language to 19 middle school students.
Together, they built relationships with students, school administrators, and churches. They used Bible stories, games, and holidays to teach English to the students.
"There is no way you can go anywhere and invest in the lives of people and not come back a better believer," said Kasey.
"There were so many open doors to talk about God, said Drew. "They are so eager to talk to Christians. God is working in China."
Kellie Bernard, a junior Health and Physical Education major, taught English as a Second Language in Berlin, Germany. Working with missionary Kristi Walker, she was able to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with preteens in a country where less than 1 percent of nationals go to a church of any kind.
BBC&S' own "RiSE," a worship team working through the Admissions Department, also travelled the country, ministering in churches, schools, and camps. The team was made up of several students, including:
Josiah Mantz (senior)
Aaron Hixson (sophomore)
Matt Szabo (sophomore)
Lauren Bailey (sophomore)
Josh Walton (senior)
Sam Mader (junior)
Alyssa Maxwell (sophomore)
Kerstin Miller (senior)
The team started traveling in May, leading worship and counseling at camps including Camp Patmos, Skyview Ranch, and Camp BaYouCa.
In June, Matt Szabo, Kerstin Miller and Alyssa Maxwell left for Lake Ann Camp in Michigan to serve there for the summer, leading worship for six chapels each day.
Others who spoke in chapel included Crista Gaskill, a sophomore who ministered in Canada, and Marlie Kneifel, a senior who spent spring break with Noah Kellerman, also a senior, serving in Berlin, Germany.
Many other students were involved in summer missions this year. The Summer Missions Teams Chapel encouraged students to get out of their comfort zones and into hands-on work, carrying out the Great Commission.
