A family brought together
The musical recounts the true story of the Von Trapp family as they lived amidst the Third Reich movement of World War II. The family is brought together by the new governess, a former nun, through music.

When their country of Austria is taken over by Nazi Germany, Captain Georg von Trapp is pressed into service for the German Navy. Refusing, he and his family flee the country together. It is based on the 1949 memoir of Maria von Trapp, "The Story of the Trapp Family Singers."
