Teacher Recruitment Fair connects students with careers
Education students made valuable connections with school administrators this month, learning about many career opportunities.
Baptist Bible College's annual Teacher Recruitment Fair was held January 17-18 in the Phelps Student Center. Representatives and administrators from 17 schools attended. Students talked with administrators and participated in interviews with prospective employers.
The school representatives and current student teachers shared a dinner provided by BBC. Each student teacher interviewed with at least two different schools in attendance.
All education students enjoyed time with the various schools in attendance. Pioneer College Catering served lunch for the administrators and student teachers to conclude the fair.
Jessica DeLong, a current student teacher, hopes to be in a school next year. She appreciated the good networking opportunity and learning about a variety of schools. She also gained experience with the interview process.
"BBC prepared me well to put into practice the techniques the professors taught," she said. "I am using in the classroom now the projects we did in classes at BBC.
Representing Santiago Christian Academy in Santiago, Chile were Rob and Sherry Hagerty. The Hagertys will be serving as full-time missionaries to Chile within the next year. Rob said the school needs more certified teachers so others can be more involved in the church plant.
The school was pleased with a previous student teacher from BBC and is looking forward to future relationships with BBC graduates, he said.
Judy Severns of SEND International, a mission agency with a presence in more than 20 countries, said she appreciates the biblical worldview BBC students gain. She comes to the fair to "get the cream of the crop" and also appreciates the dedication of faculty members who also attended for their students.
