Lady Defenders set
The 2009-10 season for the Lady Defenders has brought about a lot of change. There are nine new players and only six returners to the lineup.
With the losses, it could be considered a rebuilding year, but the Lady Defenders have strong veteran leadership from fourth-year players Joy DeLeonardis and Laurie Plante.
Junior Marlie Kneifel also returns to provide strong defense and quickness at the small forward position. Last year's backup point guard, Laura Grace Hodupp, is also expected to step up in a big way this year as well.
Three other newcomers, Kelly Bargfeldt, Alyssa Maxwell, and Jessica White show great promise to make a big contribution.
"All of our newcomers bring energy, excitement, and a willingness to learn to the team," said Coach Matt Pollock.
Coach Pollock is entering his third year as head coach. He has strengthened the leadership of the team by adding Coach Jessica Pollock, a graduate from last year's team, to his staff.

Men's team starts November 17
The 2009-10 Defenders has a much different look, returning only five players.
Junior Nathan Greve, the Defenders' leading scorer averaging 16.7 points per game last year, is the only starter returning. Greve was also second on the team in rebounds, averaging 5.6 boards a game. The other returners are Stephen Howard, Seth Bernard, Christian Attlesey, and Matt McCarty. They are joined by Joshua Howard, who played two years ago.
As always, defense and fundamentals are the focus of this team.
There are many new faces getting into action and filling multiple roles. Some of the new names are transfers Adam Slusher and Ryan Sullivan, along with freshmen Kyle Pannebaker and Dathan Marshall.
Mike Show is entering his 16th year as head coach. He is joined by returning members of the staff -- Dwight Peterson, Joel Nietz, and Jon Konzelman.
