Counseling program offering three weekend seminars
Brief counseling, handling crises, and solving marriage problems are the focus of upcoming weekend seminars at Baptist Bible Graduate School.
The seminars run on campus Fridays from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. They will be held in January, February, and March.
Students can earn credit hours toward a degree through the seminars. BBGS offers a master's degree in Counseling Ministries. The 48-credit-hour program incorporates both classroom learning and practical experience. Students can complete the classroom portion of the program in as little as two years. For details, go to click here or call 570.586.2400.
Seminars cost $99 each. Pizza is provided Friday night and free snacks and drinks are available through the weekend.

Three seminars ahead
January 30-31, 2009: Cary Lantz, Ph.D.
Brief Counseling
An overview of principles, models, and techniques for promoting accelerated healing and change in people's lives. Students will be encouraged to critically examine the value and advisability of time-limited counseling and to think through a biblically informed approach to counseling within a brief format. The focus is on exploration of applications of this knowledge toward the bold goal of transforming lives, not simply eliminating symptoms.
February 27-28, 2009: Cary Lantz, Ph.D.
Crisis Counseling
This study covers the variety of life crises to which counselors may be called upon to respond along with consideration of models for intervention. Attention will be given to developing a simple, biblically informed format to guide the counselor faced with the confusion and distress often accompanying crisis events.
March 27-28, 2009: Dow Pursley, Ed.D.
Solving Marriage Problems
An analysis of the major marital problems presented to pastors and marriage counselors. This course covers a wide range of solutions needed to guide a couple back to harmony.
