    • Successful President's Golf Classic adds to student scholarships

    • videoThe tradition of raising funds for BBC&S scholarships through play at a championship-caliber golf course continued in May, with more than $60,000 raised for students.

      The President's Golf Classic has been held annually in Northeastern Pennsylvania since 2005. Nearly 90 golfers and 27 sponsors participated in the May 20 event.

      "We greatly appreciate the generosity of these sponsors and golfers,," said BBC&S President Jim Jeffery. "They are enabling us to provide greater scholarships for students and making a tremendous investment in the future."

      The 2014 President's Golf Classic will be May 19, 2014. It will again be at Glen Oak Country Club in Waverly, PA, minutes from the BBC&S campus.

    • Opened in 1953, the course was designed by James Harrison under the training of Donald Ross, a highly regarded golf course architect. It features five tees at each hole.

      2013 President's Golf Classic prize winners included:
      Men's Championship Team: 57 (Scott Salvigsen, Stan Salvigsen, Justin Tressler, and John Bodin)
      Men's First Flight: 60 (Mike Show, Bill Callahan, Jay Hoyt, and Rich Winkler)
      Women's Championship Flight: 70 (Dawn Jacobs, Amber Jacobs, Dena Cambra, and Elaine Brown)
      Closest to the Pin: Hole 9: Tom Gauntlett
      Men's Longest Drive: Hole 18: Gary Compton
      Women's Longest Drive: Hole 5: Amber Jacobs

      Baptist Bible College & SeminaryLead sponsor for the event was Luzerne Bank.

      "It has been my pleasure to work with the staff of BBC&S and our dedicated golf committee members over the past seven months to put together what has become one of the premier golf tournaments in Northeast Pennsylvania," said Jim Burke, Senior Vice President and Regional Lending Executive at Luzerne Bank. "I am thankful for the community's generous support and for being part of such a worthwhile cause."

      Other top-level sponsors included Lindsey Lawn & Garden, Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. of Scranton, Pioneer College Caterers, Datapipe, Sovereign Insurance Group, Global Risk Management, Master Spas, One Source Benefits, DeLeon Chiropractic Health Center, and FASTSIGNS.

      Golfers and sponsors appreciated the opportunity to both enjoy the day and assist students in paying for education at BBC&S.
