BBC&S RAISES OVER $160,000 AT FIRST GOLF-A-THON
Over thirty golfer-caddy teams showed up to Tee It Up for
Students on Thursday, April 28, 2005, at Stone Hedge Golf Course
near Tunkhannock, PA, in an effort to raise money that directly
benefits students preparing for ministry at Baptist Bible College,
Graduate School, and Seminary. In the first year of what is
to become an annual event, participants, students, and staff
raised over $160,000. "The Golf-a-thon is a great opportunity
for a lot of different people to contribute to the raising
up of God's leaders, and it is a really unique and fun way
to spend a day for a great cause—the students at BBC," said
Shane Miller, Resident Director in Ridley Dorm.
Golfers braved sun, wind, rain, sleet, and hail to bring in
money for students but enjoyed their day out on the course. "The
best part of the Golf-a-thon besides seeing God bless with
major financial support was the fun on the course. I have never
had more fun on a golf course!" said Matt Pollock, Dean
of Men.
The day began with breakfast at 6:30 a.m. followed by a day
of golfing and fellowship. The highlight of the day was President
Jim Jeffery and his caddy shooting over 250 holes. Shane Miller
and Matt Pollock were close behind with 232 holes. "My
body feels every single one," joked Shane.
Why did Pollock and Miller choose to participate in the Golf-a-thon? "I
knew I could contribute to enable students to study and prepare
to be the next leaders in God's Church. I would like to be
able to help each student financially, but since I can't do
that directly, this opportunity allowed me to help in a small
way," said Shane. Dean Pollock added, "I was convinced
God was doing something BIG! When given the opportunity to
be a part of that, how could I pass it up?"
