Do caddies play in the Golf-a-thon?
YES. We actually refer to our caddies as caddy/playing partners. Golfing 100 holes is fun, but it can still be strenuous for one person, even with the modified rules. Caddies work out with their golfer how many holes they will golf – we ask each playing team to golf a total of 100 holes.

Do I send my own letters to try to raise money?
BBC will supply you with personalized letters, envelopes, stamps, mailing labels, and postage free envelopes for your supporters to submit their gifts. We ask that you give us the names and addresses of those you wish to send letters to so that we can personalize your letters. You will sign the letters and may want to add a personal note as well. We suggest that you submit 40 to 50 names to achieve your goal.

Will supporters who give a gift be solicited by BBC&S after this?
It is our desire to honor the people who help us raise money for scholarships and those who donate a gift. Every person who receives a letter requesting a gift has the opportunity to opt out of further mailings by checking a box on the reply form and returning it to BBC in the postage free envelope.

Do people give a gift to BBC student scholarships if they aren't familiar with your students or your mission?
People give because they have a relationship with the person that is asking for a gift. For instance, in 2005, BBC had over 1,000 individuals give a gift to student scholarships. Many of these people had little or no previous knowledge of BBC or its mission. They gave because of a desire to be part of helping students studying for ministry careers to be less encumbered with debt.

PhotoWhy do you ask golfers and caddies to pay an entry fee and what is included in that fee?
Both golfers and caddies will be trying to raise money for BBC. Most people are more inclined to give when they see the person making the request for a gift has demonstrated their commitment by giving a gift themselves. Your entry fee is not tax deductible since you receive meals and gifts in return, but it is credited toward the $1,500 you are trying to raise.

When we receive your entry fee and commitment card, you will receive a Player Packet which includes the Player Handbook and Business Sponsor information.

Why do you ask golfers and caddies to arrive the night before the event?
We ask all participants to join us the night before the Golf-a-thon from 7:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 14, for the Pre-Event Celebration held on campus at the Phelps Student Center. Hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and beverages are served, making it convenient for those traveling to Clarks Summit after their work day. At the Pre-Event, we explain the rules for the Golf-a-thon, distribute the participants’ gifts, hear a brief update from the President, and meet the other golfers and caddies.

What do you provide to golfers and caddies?

PhotoAre there any reasons why a person could not play?
You are limited only by the advice of your physician. We have golfers and caddies from ages 17 to 70 play. It doesn’t matter if you are a good golfer; the event does not require top level golf skills or a great deal of strength or stamina. Our unique Golf-a-thon rules make it possible to play 100 holes in one day.

How will weather conditions affect the event?
Unless the course is closed due to unsafe weather conditions, we will continue to play. Participants can stop at any time if they feel it necessary, but to qualify for prizes and awards, players must return a scorecard that demonstrates they golfed 100 holes.
