Shane & Shane, Starfield to visit BBC

Contemporary Christian musical groups Shane & Shane and Starfield will be performing at Baptist Bible College this month. The February 14 concert will be a part of their Vision of You 2008 Spring Tour.

Shane & Shane is a Texas-based, acoustic, praise and worship band. They have released four albums as Shane & Shane, including Pages released in 2007. To listen to and learn about Shane & Shane, visit their website here.

Starfield is a multiple Covenant Award-winning Christian music worship group from Manitoba, Canada. They have released three albums. Their fourth, I Will Go, is set to be released in March. To listen to and learn about Starfield, visit their website here.

The concert begins at 8 p.m. in the Phelps Student Center. Tickets are $10 for students, $12 for adults, and $15 at the door. Click here or call the BBC Box Office at 570.585.9311 for details. Hours are Monday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m.

BBC&S visits Florida, Michigan

Alumni and friends of Baptist Bible College & Seminary have several chances to connect with each other and learn about campus activities over the upcoming months.

Three alumni and friends events are planned in February and April. The opportunities in Tampa, Chicago and Milwaukee are designed to reunite acquaintances and enable visitors to share in the vision of BBC&S.

Translation Project

Academics
Prof heads translation project

Part-time Baptist Bible College professor Ashraf Basilious is coordinating work on an Arabic translation of The Expositor’s Bible Commentary. It is a 12-volume commentary on the entire Bible, published by Zondervan Press.

Mr. Basilious is the general editor of the translation project. He is currently earning his Ph.D. from Baptist Bible Seminary. The project is the first undertaking of the Friends of Arab Christians Ministry.

Missions

Missions
Students plan missions trips

Students have several opportunities to minister overseas during the spring semester and this summer. The Baptist Bible College Missions Department is organizing short term missions trips to more than a half-dozen countries this year.

Countries to be visited this summer include Mongolia, Romania, Japan, South Africa and Portugal. Ecuador and Papua/New Guinea will be visited this spring.

Church Ministries Conference

Events
Conference to focus on local churches
Best practices for building local church ministries will be the focus of a wide-ranging event this spring on the campus of Baptist Bible College & Seminary.

Workshop sessions during the two-day Church Ministries Conference will feature tools, ideas and lessons applicable to children, youth, adults, leadership and outreach to local communities.

Financial Aid

Financial aid
Improvements make assistance simpler

A renovated program at Baptist Bible College will simplify and improve the financial aid process for students. The improved program will affect new students who enter beginning with the Fall 2008 semester.

The change is part of an initiative to make the financial aid program more closely reflect the mission of the school, excellence in biblical education for effectiveness in ministry leadership.

Basketball

Athletics
Men's Basketball
Strong inside play and great field goal percentages has allowed the Defender men's basketball team to improve their North Eastern Athletic Conference record to 5-3.

The men's overall record is now 10-8. Close contests were the rule in January. Of nine games in the month, six had a final spread of five points or less.

Women's Basketball

The Lady Defenders are currently ranked third in the NEAC. A final resounding victory over Wilson College raised their conference record to 8-2.

The team started the season strong and carried that momentum through January. Their 7-3 record for the month brought their overall record to 11-5.

Faculty Update

Dr. Gordon Mason was invited to guest conduct the PA District 9 Band Festival at Montrose High School on January 10-11. It is an annual festival with about 40 high schools represented from five counties.

 

Prayer Request
The annual Missions Conference will be held later this month. Please ask the Lord to bless the speakers as they share their burdens and to fill all those who attend with a stronger desire to serve Him.
