Staff member heading to mission field

Dann Ransom, a technician in the Information Technology Department since 2003, is leaving his staff position at Baptist Bible College & Seminary to prepare full-time for service as a missionary in Italy.

Dann ('06) and his wife, Liz ('05), are both BBC graduates. They have been actively preparing for this service in Perugia, Italy since July 2006. They are hoping to be able to head to Italy after a year of preparation, including raising needed support funds.

His last day, February 7, comes in the midst of BBC's 2008 Missions Conference, "The Whole Gospel to the Whole World."

In 1996, Dann went to work with the Whitman family in Italy on what was initially to be a three-month trip. He then spent the next six years serving in Italy, only returning to the United States for a few summers.

In 2002, he and Liz Whitman came to the U.S. To continue their education at BBC. They were married in 2003. The Lord added a new member, Cristina Elizabeth, to their family last November.

The Ransoms will serve in Perugia, the capital city of the region of Umbria in central Italy. Dann's work will include technical support for a radio and television ministry as well as preaching and teaching. Liz's work will include discipleship, informal counseling and music ministry.

"I initially went to Italy to get experience in broadcasting, but God used a lot of things to turn my heart from broadcasting to ministry," Dann said. "Conversations with my father, the years I spent in Italy and opportunities I had to preach helped me to see the big picture of how my service fits into the work of the Church. My years at BBC helped me to solidify that into a clear understanding of my call to the ministry."

"Liz and I are very excited about going on deputation full-time," Dann said. "It's definitely a step of faith, especially considering that Christina is only two months old. There are brief moments of uncertainty, but we just keep trusting God to continue doing what He has been doing, providing for our needs and giving us direction."
