Kempton funeral service set

A funeral service for Dr. Wendell Kempton will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 11, at Calvary Church in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

A 4 p.m. reception with the family will follow the funeral. Due to limited capacity in the church reception hall, visitors are asked to register online at www.abwe.org.

Dr. Kempton died early Sunday, January 6, at his home in Lititz, Pennsylvania, after a short battle with cancer. President of the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism for 30 years, Dr. Kempton was a key figure in the growth and development of Baptist Bible College & Seminary.

A 1954 graduate of Baptist Bible, Dr. Kempton served the school as an employee from 1961 to 1971. He became a trustee in 1976. Read more about his involvement with BBC&S here.

Dr. Kempton’s work beyond BBC&S and ABWE included speaking to professional sports teams, including engagements at three Super Bowls and a World Series. He also led regular neighborhood outreach Bible studies and served on boards of numerous organizations and a national insurance company. He traveled to every continent and continued to speak weekly throughout the world in local churches, colleges, seminaries and universities until a month before his death.

The Kempton family has requested memorial gifts in lieu of flowers be given to the Wendell Kempton Memorial Fund. Donations should be made out to “ABWE” and mailed to P.O. Box 8585, Harrisburg, PA 17105, designated to the “Wendell Kempton Memorial Fund.” Gifts may also be made online at www.abwe.org.
