State, county recognize BBC&S Day

November 8 is Baptist Bible College & Seminary Day in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and in Lackawanna County.

A statewide designation, sponsored by Rep. Frank Andrews Shimkus of South Abington Township, created the day in the Keystone State. The resolution comes as BBC&S marks its 75th anniversary this year and was passed unanimously by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

The day comes “with respect for Baptist Bible's leadership cultivation and community outreach,” according to the resolution.

The Commissioners in Lackawanna County are also declaring a special day. Commissioners Robert Cordaro, A.J. Munchak, and Mike Washo noted the institution’s commitment to its mission and wide economic impact in creating the day.

Carrying the theme “Celebrating God’s Faithfulness,” BBC&S is marking this special year with a range of programs and events. Created in 1932 in Johnson City, NY, the College and Seminary moved to its 121-acre campus outside Scranton, PA in 1968.

Along with the state designation, the day is being noted on community message boards Clarks Summit Borough and South Abington Township. BBC&S was also honored by the Pennsylvania Senate.

Sen. Robert J. Mellow of Peckville authored a congratulations to the institution on behalf of the Senate. It offers “best wishes for a continued tradition of excellence.”
